In this case, it was somebody else's death, specifically a murder. Christopher Lane, 22, of Melbourne, Australia, was murdered on Friday of last week by three teenagers in Oklahoma looking for something to do to relieve their boredom.
Lane was a baseball player at East Central University in Ada, about 85 miles east of the metropolis of Duncan. He was shot in the back as he walked down the street. The shooter was in the back seat of a passing car. All three occupants are under arrest and facing murder charges.
Chancey Allen Luna, 16, James Francis Edwards, Jr. 15, and Michael Dewayne Jones, 17, are all accused in the case. Jones has already admitted in open court to being the shooter. The two youngest will be tried as adults, Jones as a juvenile though his trial will be in an adult court. (I admit to having some trouble following the logic on that.)
A former deputy prime minister, Tim Fischer, blamed the NRA. That idiocy clearly ignores the fact that the shooter was in violation of several laws before he even pulled the trigger.
