Notable passing

Mar 19th, 2014 | By | Category: Notable Deaths

tapsJosephine Serrano Collier died on February 25 in Tucson Arizona at the age of 91.  Why should anybody care?  Josephine Serrano was the first Latina on the LAPD, having joined up at age 24 in 1946.  I can’t imagine what it was like for a female of hispanic background to be working as a cop for the LAPD at that time but she did it.

She married another cop, Jack Collier.  They had three kids.  He went out on a medical in 1960 and they eventually moved to Idaho to raise cattle along the Snake River.  Beautiful country.

Bob, Thank you for posting this story. I did not know of her until I read your post and followed the link. She looks pretty proud and very happy to be wearing that uniform. May she rest in peace and may she be remembered for her accomplishments.
