I just had an interesting piece of info come over the transom which makes me believe that public safety under realignment is MUCH WORSE than the public is generally aware. Assuming the info is correct the daily report to the SecrAttorney used to include information on realignment release parolees who were involved in serious, high-profile violent crime. This statistical info was, at least on occasion, leaked to the media. The department has decided to deal with this embarrassment by directing that this information NOT be put in the daily briefing report.
I admit that I think this brilliant ploy will in fact work, for a while. The department will be able to truthfully say, “I don’t know anything about that.” For a while. Then somebody will ask why they don’t know. The head in the sand move is not, in the long run, helpful.
