Former Westminster PD detective Anthony Nicholas Orban kidnapped and raped a waitress on April 3, 2010. There is no question that he did it. He dropped his service weapon in her car while he was raping her.
His attempt at a Zoloft defense failed last week. He is now working on an outright psych defense. He has now plead not guilty by reason of temporary insanity. It is up to the defense to prove that he was insane at the time of the incident.
He was assisted in his crime by CDCr Correctional Officer Jeff Jelinek. I am guessing that is now former correctional officer Jeff Jelinek, but there is remarkably little info available on him. Both men were allegedly significantly drunk at the time of the incident. Jelinek was the lookout and getaway driver. Both men were looking at 25-to-life if convicted.

UPDATE: It didn’t work. The jury found him guilty. Sentencing will be in about 90 days. My guesstimate is that the judge will hammer him, justifiably so. Voluntary intoxication is not, and should not, be an excuse for criminal activity.
I was also able to finally find some info on Jelinek. He plead no contest about ten weeks ago and agreed to testify against Orban. He got five years as part of the plea deal. Clicking here will link to a piece on that story.
