Oh what a tangled web we weave, etc. etc. SF Mayor Ed Lee suspended Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi from his office earlier this year over allegations that Mirkarimi thumped his wife at a New Years party. Mirkarimi pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count of false imprisonment for restraining her without legal justification, leaving a bruise on her arm. He at first tried to snivel out, asserting it was a private matter. That of course didn’t fly.
Last week Mayor Lee testified under oath that he had NOT discussed suspending Mirkarimi with the Board of Superivsors prior to the action. It appears that he may have been less than fully truthful there.
Debra Walker is a political supporter of Ed Lee and is the Building Inspection Commissioner in SF. She has since said that her good buddy, Supervisor Christina Olague, told her that Lee indeed discussed the issue with her prior to the action being taken. Her testimony is at the moment hearsay, but since the issue is before the Ethics Commission and not a court of law it may not matter.
At any event what looked like a slam-dunk against the Sheriff has turned into something far, far less.
