The court ordered Schoenfeld’s release earlier this year after ruling that CDCr set an unfair release date of 2021 for him even though the department was officially of the opinion that he was no longer a threat to society. The Department appealed to the state Supreme Court. On Thursday the department lost, and Schoenfeld won.
Personally I think this decision is reasonable. I hear Damascus is lovely this time of year. I am confident they would give him a warm welcome there, and if they didn’t, I wouldn’t care so much as long as he stayed there. As an alternative they could release him into a metal box buried in a gravel pit somewhere with a 1973 Plymouth accidentally parked on top of the escape hatch.
