Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy, reacting angrily to the Thursday night shootings in a Chicago park where 13 people were wounded, told a press conference, ““Illegal guns, illegal guns, illegal guns drive violence….A military-grade weapon on the streets of Chicago is simply unacceptable.” He also said, “Military-type weapons like the one we believe to have been used in this shooting belong on battlefields, not on the street or on the corner or in the park in the Back of the Yards [neighborhood].”
In addition to the 13 people shot in the park, 10 other people were shot Thursday night in Chicago, three of them shot dead. That’s 23 people shot in one night.
To the gun control crowd, it’s always the guns, never the thugs running around shooting up neighborhoods or the kooks killing kids at schools, that are responsible for the violence. Chicago, along with Washington, D.C. and New York City, has the most restrictive gun laws in the nation. But that’s not good enough for McCarthy. He and his ilk want even stricter gun controls, and they want them applied nationwide.
