Canadian swatter arrested

iStockPhoto SLC Minilypse-Judicial CourtSwatting is a rather nasty, malicious and dangerous “stunt.”  It consists of picking a target, contact the local cops and tricking them into responding in force, preferably with a SWAT team.  This is often done by spoofing a phone number or using a cell phone and telling the cops there is a home invasion in progress and hostages have been taken.

An unnamed 13-year old from Ottawa is now under arrest, being charged with multiple instances of SWATing, including several in the US.  I hope they throw the book at the little bastard.

I would call the little bastard a Serial Swatter. I hope the Canadians deal with him in harsher terms than he would be dealt with here in the U.S. Here he would probably get off with a simple admonishment because our justice system considers 13-year-olds as incapable of knowingly committing a crime.

Sooner or later some innocent person is going to get killed in one of these swatting incidents.
