Some years ago the Alameda County Board of Supervisors decided that gun shows on county property were somehow objectionable and passed an ordinance which effectively outlawed them at the Alameda County Fairgrounds. It has gone to court before but things have changed and an 11 member panel of the court is again set to hear the issue.
A combination of recent SCOTUS decisions saying that the right to keep and bear arms is an individual rather than a collective guarantee and new California laws outlawing open carry have put a new focus on the issue. A three-judge panel acting in 2009 found the Alameda County ordinance to be reasonable.
Assuming the plaintiffs win it seems likely to be headed to the Supreme Court.
