The Desert View Modified Community Correctional Facility’s contract with CDCr to house state prisoners has been cancelled, leaving the 643 bed GEO facility without a mission and the 150 employees in the unemployment line, effective Wednesday.
The department is, however, encouraging the local jurisdictions to contract with CCF privateer operators to house prisoners. So far, the locals seem disinclined to do so, due to lack of funding.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office has stated that they are not planning to privatize beds due to cost.
The GEO group operates six of the nine privateer operations that lost their gig. An additional five were operated by local governments.
